Acquisition expands independent sector-focused AllTrack’s existing integrated performance and mechanical royalty collection services to include neighboring rights for artists and labels.

AllTrack has taken the next big step in realizing its vision of creating a modernized all-in-one collective management organization (CMO) to serve artists, producers, labels, songwriters, and publishers. The company is announcing the acquisition of the neighboring rights assets of Number13, the music licensing and rights management firm founded by seasoned music rights executive Wade Metzler (ex-SoundExchange). As part of the agreement, Metzler has joined AllTrack to lead its newly launched neighboring rights division. AllTrack’s neighboring rights services are live and immediately available to artists and labels.

This makes AllTrack the only US-based PRO to administer and collect neighboring rights royalties on behalf of its members. Prior to this transaction, AllTrack members were already able to collect performance and mechanical royalties through a single platform. Now, it’s easier than ever for AllTrack members to manage their composition and sound recording catalogs in one place and ensure they are receiving every penny they are owed for the use of their copyrights. AllTrack’s comprehensive suite of royalty collection services is intuitive enough for self-managed creators, yet robust enough to support both small and established labels and publishers.

Including the acquisition of Number13’s neighboring rights assets and other recent signings, AllTrack now represents neighboring rights in recordings performed by American Authors, Bad English, Billy Joe Armstrong, Bleachers, Bruce Springsteen, Counting Crows, Dinosaur Jr, Eddie Money, Elvis Costello, Face to Face, Future, Jesse Malin, Lucinda Williams, NOFX, Rancid, Spoon, Steven Van Zandt, The Vandals, The Wallflowers, The Cult, Tom Morello, and many other artists.

“The proprietary neighboring rights technology we’ve developed, combined with the acquisition of Number13, has enabled us to expand our services into another royalty stream that our members can collect directly through AllTrack. We’re automatically enriching recording-level metadata, driving efficiencies via modern technology, and managing recording registrations directly with local country CMOs,” explains AllTrack Founder and CEO Hayden Bower. “Neighboring rights are complicated. While many artists manage them through a single neighboring rights CMO, or in limited cases through middlemen and aggregators, these parties may not have the relationships or technological capabilities to manage registrations at a local level, resulting in royalty payments that fall significantly short of their full potential. By optimizing every stream we manage, we help artists and labels capture more revenue, whether they choose a standalone service or our entire all-in-one suite of services.”

Neighboring rights ensure that artists, producers, and rights owners are compensated whenever their sound recordings are publicly performed. They exist alongside or "neighbor" the traditional copyright that protects public performances of musical compositions. In the US, these rights include non-interactive performances on SiriusXM (primarily satellite), streaming services, and digital radio. Outside of the US, they also include broadcast radio and TV, as well as money collected from local businesses like bars, restaurants, and hotels. For most artists, producers, and rights owners (typically labels and independent artists), neighboring rights royalties have proven challenging to collect in full, particularly outside of the US. AllTrack collects these royalties directly from a network of relationships with local country-level CMOs throughout the world. These direct relationships, along with AllTrack’s knowledge of each CMO’s platform and technical specifications, ensure that recordings are properly registered per unique local requirements, typically leading to meaningful uplifts in earnings.

“I am thrilled to join AllTrack to spearhead its neighboring rights division,” notes Metzler, who founded Number13 after decades at SoundExchange, ASCAP, EMI Music Publishing, and various independent record labels. “I have devoted my career to advocating for creators and working to maximize the full potential of their earnings. AllTrack’s modern technology stack, combined with our shared goal of empowering the creative community to maximize their royalties, made AllTrack the perfect partner for Number13. Neighboring rights are a new frontier for many artists, producers, and labels. We make it easy to collect on these rights with a uniquely powerful full-service solution.”

“This acquisition is part of a larger long-term vision to build the most modern, most efficient CMO on the market,” says Bower. “Our team remains fully committed to building on the success of our organic growth achieved to date while also remaining open to exploring additional acquisition opportunities that align with our vision of maximizing value to our music creators and licensees.”

AllTrack Becomes the First U.S. PRO to Offer Integrated Performance and Mechanical Rights Services

AllTrack, the digital-era performing rights organization (PRO) built to serve the independent music sector, has launched a mechanical rights division. This makes AllTrack the first and only PRO in the United States to offer integrated performance and mechanical rights collection services that music creators and publishers can manage through a single platform.

While performance royalties are compensation for rightsholders when their songs are performed in public (either live or when a recording is played), mechanical royalties are compensation for rightsholders when their songs are reproduced and distributed. Mechanical royalties are generated when music is streamed on demand, used in digital applications, downloaded, reproduced into physical products such as CDs and vinyl records, or utilized in various other means protected under copyright law. AllTrack now collects mechanical royalties on behalf of its members throughout the world, both directly and through its relationships with international sister societies.

Traditionally, independent US creators have needed to register their songs with multiple platforms and societies to collect their global mechanical royalties. In some cases, if they wished to pursue a truly independent path, certain forms of mechanicals were inaccessible altogether. In other cases, they may have just registered with the MLC in the US, not realizing that the MLC only collects a portion of the overall mechanical royalties available to them (US interactive audio-only streaming and downloads). AllTrack solves these issues by enabling rightsholders to collect all forms of worldwide mechanical royalties through a single platform, including streaming, downloads, physical, lyrics, and any other forms protected under copyright law.

While AllTrack’s modernized platform can be used for either mechanical rights or performing rights on a standalone basis, rightsholders that use AllTrack for both rights benefit even further by:
Saving time and hassle by only needing to manage an account and register songs with one rights organization
~ Receiving faster, more direct payments relative to other service providers
~ Identifying and resolving conflicts more quickly
~ Unlocking powerful insights with enhanced reporting and data analytics
~ Receiving automated metadata enhancement services across both sets of rights, enabling worldwide royalties to flow properly and more efficiently

"We're thrilled to expand our services to include mechanical rights, which typically represent a significant portion of a music creator’s publishing income," said Hayden Bower, Founder and CEO of AllTrack. “Our integrated approach addresses the independent sector’s long-standing need for a simplified royalty collection process. AllTrack members can now receive the compensation they're entitled to faster and more efficiently than ever before."

The launch of this division follows AllTrack's recent acceptance to CISAC (International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) as a rights management entity and completion of a first-of-its-kind integration with a streaming service (TIDAL), further solidifying its position in the global music rights landscape.

Creators and publishers can apply for AllTrack’s mechanical rights services starting today. Becoming a member is free, subject to meeting certain minimum streaming thresholds. To learn more, please visit alltrack.com/mechanical-rights

TIDAL becomes the first platform to integrate as part of their new Songwriter Tools.

AllTrack, the digital-era performing rights organization (PRO) built to serve the independent sector, has launched a suite of APIs that are now available to creator-centric platforms such as streaming services, UGC platforms, distributors, and publishing administrators.

The benefits of the APIs include direct single-click PRO registration capabilities for unaffiliated creators from within a partner’s platform; authentication of songwriter profiles and account details; access to detailed song-level metadata; the ability to display songwriter credits to end users; immediate clearance of performing rights; and many more. The APIs can be used individually or as a suite of tools based on the specific needs of each platform.

“These tools were built to enable platforms to enrich their feature sets and deepen their relationships with their creators,” explains AllTrack Founder and CEO Hayden Bower. “If platforms can provide enhanced services that help their creators earn more, everyone wins. Creators benefit from being able to easily claim their performing rights royalties, while platforms benefit from increased creator retention and satisfaction.”

TIDAL recently implemented AllTrack’s APIs in a first-of-its-kind integration between a streaming service and a PRO. By offering direct PRO registration capabilities, TIDAL has unlocked the ability for unaffiliated creators to manage their works catalogs. TIDAL has also enabled creators to authenticate their AllTrack profiles through TIDAL Artist Home, which seamlessly populates their TIDAL Artist Home accounts with essential metadata.

“At TIDAL, we’re focused on creating new ways for artists and songwriters to grow their careers on their own terms,” says Agustina Sacerdote, Global Head of Product at TIDAL. “In AllTrack, we found a partner with the right technology to enable songwriters to quickly and easily manage the registration of their works. TIDAL and AllTrack both ultimately believe that independent artists and contributors shouldn't struggle to get paid the royalties they have earned."

These proprietary API tools underscore AllTrack’s mission to be an innovation-based PRO that develops and offers transformative technology to the music rights ecosystem. To learn more or inquire about these tools, please visit www.alltrack.com/partner-with-alltrack

AllTrack, a performing rights organization (PRO) built in the digital era to serve the independent music sector, has been accepted as a rights management entity by CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) and integrated with CISAC’s exclusive data exchange tools.

Following an extensive application and review process by CISAC, AllTrack has joined ASCAP, BMI and SESAC as fellow US PROs affiliated with the organization. Its recent integration with CISAC’s Common Information System tools has made it seamless for collection societies around the world to connect directly with AllTrack.

AllTrack attributes much of its significant growth since being founded in 2017 to its ongoing commitment to fairness, good governance, and transparency. Its affiliation with CISAC only further underscores these core values.

Founded in 1926, CISAC is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization headquartered in France. With over 227 member societies in more than 116 countries, and representing more than 5 million creators across all artistic fields, CISAC works to protect the rights of creators, safeguards the key values of collective management, and strengthens and develops the international network of collecting rights societies through the exchange of data between countries.

“AllTrack is proud to be accepted as a rights management entity by CISAC, an organization that has set the gold standard for collection societies representing creators across the globe,” says AllTrack Founder and CEO Hayden Bower. “At AllTrack, we believe we have a pivotal role to play in ensuring that independent music creators and publishers are compensated fairly when their music is used and are committed to working with our fellow CISAC-affiliated colleagues to continue to advance this mission.”
